Upon hearing of the rise of child prostitution and trafficking, Impact Church and students from the McGill Christian Fellowship decided to work to support International Justice Mission, an NGO working to stop sex trafficking and other complex, systemic injustices throughout the world. International Justice Mission was founded by Gary Haugen to pursue justice for the oppressed by advocating for victims of injustice from within established legal systems. IJM trains, educates and mobilizes lawyers and activists to work to defend the poor and oppressed. IJM has succeeded in rescuing thousands of victims of trafficking, and is committed not just to the rescue of victims, but to aftercare programs as well.

Moved by the rise in the problem of human trafficking (now the third largest illegal industry behind drugs and arms, and the fastest growing) and sex trafficking, and outraged at the thought that though the problem is most heavy abroad, even those among us have contributed to through promoting sex without morals, the objectification of the human body and for some, even physically going to the places where children are bought for this purpose and paying for their prostitution (sex tourism), we are motivated to move on behalf of the victims.

We are motivated to begin a regular event that will raise money awareness for the cause and money to combat the problem. To start off, we aim to raise $6,500 at a benefit concert planned for January 18th, 2008 at Saints Showbar at 30 Saint Catherine Ouest. The concert is headlined by the local hip-hop collective Nomadic Massive. Other performances will be made by R&B artist, Berenice Dauphin and up and coming emcee David Hodges, both Montreal natives. Throughout the night information will be presented about the cause and the organization being supported. Information for the event can be found at our website at http://www.justicejam.ca.

All proceeds will support International Justice Mission Canada in their efforts to end human trafficking. To learn more about this injustice, please visit www.ijm.ca. If you'd like more information about who we are or why we're doing this, please contact jeremy@justicejam.ca
